MY TOOTHLESS SMART COOKIE

Yea, Dalton still loves it when I call him my smart cookie. And today was one of those days where I have repeatedly called him my smart cookie because of his spelling test. This is the second week they have had a spelling test and it is the second week in a row that he made a 101% on his test. (he got the bonus words right too) I want him to enjoy school and be proud of the work that he does and I want him to know that we are proud of the work that he does too. (this is where I pray that he got Denny's book smarts) (I still want him to have my common sense)

And last but not least he lost another tooth today at school. This one is on top so now he goes "sth" when he makes "s" sounds. Poor kid. We are so juvenile-we have to try and control our laughter when he talks. Denny had him say the word "stick" like......5 times tonight. I hope he gets used to the massive air flow going through there and his speech will get better. The upside is the next tooth is already poking through so maybe it will not take long for it to come in.

CHICKEN LITTLE

My little sheep and his Aunt Michelle.

My little sheep singing with the group.

Dalton is the sheep lying down on the far right.

I can't imagine what it takes to get 130some kindergartners to listen and OBEY to put on a production like this. They all did wonderful and the performance outstanding.

Now on the other hand..........I was sure there was going to be a redneck knock down drag out between some parents and....honestly.......I probably was going to be right there in the middle of it. So now that I have made my confession let me tell you why. At the beginning the principal got up and did the usual thanking everyone for coming, the kids have worked hard, (you get the picture) and then she had to add "if you are standing in front of someone who is seated, please move to another area or have a seat somewhere." Apparently one particular woman didn't think this had anything to do with her. Even the person whom she was with, who was sitting, told her to sit down and she said loud enough that many people heard her-"I am NOT sitting down!" Well apparently that brought out the redneck in quite a few of us because several of us started saying things like "wonder what makes her so special?" and "who does she think she is?" So I am assuming she is hearing these comments and decided she would show us and moved all the way up front. Mind you I am sitting in the second row of tables. So I think it was the school nurse that went over and told the principal about the RUDE woman and the principal came over and asked her to step to the side or have a seat. She even told her she could sit there on the floor up front. But I guess the princess was too good to sit on her big cushion and got mad and whipped herself around and told her poor friend who was nicely sitting there to "come on we're getting out of here." I thought there was going to be a roar of cheers! I wanna give a big whoop whoop out to Mrs.C for eliminating a problem.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

I know I have been camera crazy taking pictures of flowers blooming everywhere, and most of them were not mine, but this one is!! I actually have some roses that are called Knockout Roses. The nursery recommended them to me cause they are very hardy and very low maintenance. We all know that if they were not they would either be brown or PLASTIC!!! hehee

RUB A DUB DUB CAN U SEE DALTON IN THE TUB??

He's there somewhere!

There he is! He turned on the jets to make all of these bubbles! (his bubble bath was in there too)+

Dalton had a crash on his bike today, which he got up from it and said "I'm okay" and went on playing. Not too long after that he started crying and went into the house. It seems that my child has this thing about seeing his own blood and he started bleeding where he scratched his leg when he fell on his bike. He was covered in mud, BIG SURPRISE THERE, so I told him I needed to put him in the tub. The howling got worse! He cried that the water would hurt it. He wouldn't take a shower either. So I pulled out the big guns and offered to let him in "The Big Tub". He was all for it and very quickly forgot all about his leg and the pain he was in. I in turn got to clean up water and bubbles from EVERYWHERE and a ring around the tub.

KINDERGARTEN TODAY

There is a chance that I may be repeating myself in this blog entry but I still find it amazing.

Many, many, many years ago when I was in Kindergarten I went for half a day and in that half a day I know we ate, played and took a nap.

In today's Kindergarten Dalton is there for a full day and once a week he has Art, Music, Science Lab, Computer Lab, PE and Library. Isn't that too cool!! Not only that he counts forwards, backwards, by tens, by fives, they do word problems, they write, they are READING and they have recently started spelling test!! I am so amazed by Dalton's smartness my pride is bursting!

With all of this new wonderment comes changes in our house too. For instance: we used to spell things we didn't want to say out loud in front of Dalton. He sounds things out and then tells you what you just said now. (most of the time) That brings up this whole new "code" that we talk in that even we don't know what we are saying sometimes. And, unfortunately if we don't try and get out what ever it is we think we need to say and we try to wait and talk about it later...............what was I saying? haha We forget what it was that we wanted to say! At this rate, I figure by the time he gets into junior high he will be picking out what nursing home he is going to put us in cause he will know far more than what we do! Pudding anyone?

And that brings me to their Kindergarten production next week. They are going to be performing Chicken Little. How cute is that!!!! Dalton is going to be one of the sheep. Time to dust off the old camcorder and see if it works. The last week of this month they get to go to a place that is kinda like-but better than ChuckECheeses, then the following week they are going to the Zoo. Last day of school is May 21 with Kindergarten graduation on the 22. sigh* Then I have a 1st grader. heavy sigh* sniff sniff* This past year has just flown by!

EASTER 2009

Dalton hunting eggs. The Easter Bunny had to hide them indoors since it was rainging outside.

This is the bunny cake that my sister Michelle made.

This year the Easter Bunny brought Dalton a cart on wheels mostly filled with outdoor things like bubbles, sidewalk Egg chalk, plastic gardening tools, pinwheels for his flower garden and flip flops. Then there were things like a video, music cd, a fluffy bunny, a Cars note pad and some little post-its. The Easter Bunny tried to keep the candy to a minimum by only putting some in the plastic eggs.

Roscoe wanted to hunt eggs too!

Abie used her long nose to find an egg!

CRACK BUNNY?

Ok, is this bunny on crack?? Look at the expression on it's face-and those teeth, and the way it is sitting. Homeboy bunny? I don't know but the bunny that came to school was a much better bunny!

CAN YOU SAY EWWWWWWWWW

I know some of you will get a chuckle out of this and some of you will be completely and utterly grossed out.

Let me first say that you will see on the Easter Eve posting that we went fishing. We buy worms from Wal Mart and they have to stay cool in the refrigerator. We didn't use all of the worms so we brought them back home to use this week.........okay here we go..............this morning I go to get the milk out for breakfast and I see this odd looking thing laying on the shelf. I didn't give it that much attention since 1. it was 6:30 in the morning and 2. I was focused on getting Dalton his breakfast. Then I grabbed the milk and THERE IT WAS! This thing on the side of the wall of the refrigerator. It looked like it was moving. IT WAS!!! IT WAS AN ESCAPED WORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness worms don't bother me. (yes I bait my own hook) It seems that one of the containers became a little squished and the lid no longer fits tightly on it. So I scooped up the worm that was scaling up the wall and put him back in the container with his friends. Oh, and the odd looking thing laying on the shelf....................well that was one of the other escapees that wasn't so lucky.

EASTER EVE

The night before Easter we dyed the eggs.

We went fishing at our neighborhood pond.

04/09/09 EGG HUNT AT SCHOOL

Here are a few pictures from the egg hunt at school. Isn't that a pretty bunny! I will later put up a post of the "crack bunny" that they had at Wal Mart.

DALTON LOST ANOTHER TOOTH

Actually he lost it a week ago today. Dalton lost his first two teeth within a week of each other back in the summer and this one is on the bottom too. There are so many areas of parenthood that you think and worry about and this was one of those that I had completely forgot about until the first two became loose. Today Dalton told me he has another one loose and this one is on top. I was starting to suspect that he had more loose teeth because of the way he is talking. He has the whistling sound when he talks. I was worried at first when he started loosing them because I was thinking he is only in Kindergarten-then I remembered he has the late birthday and he is also 6! I am glad he is loosing them now while he is in Kindergarten because the older you get the more cruel kids are and right now for the most part I think that all of the kids in his class get along pretty well together. The kids have assigned seats at tables and every once in a while Mrs.R moves them around so they get a chance to know one another and learn to be friends with everyone and not have little clicks or "Kindergarten gangs". hahaha

MORE NATURE SCENES

This one was taken in my flower bed.

This one was taken in my neighbor (Dana's) flower bed.

Yeah this one was taken at Dana's too.

Well as you may have noticed I have been taking a lot of "nature" and other pictures here lately. Well, that is because I have a new camera and I am having a lot of fun with it. I am hoping that over time I will get better at taking them and who knows.........one day I might even read the owners manual!!!! Now that would be a FAMILY first!

DALTON AND HIS SISTERS (oh relax)

Dalton and Sloan.

Dalton, Erin and Sloan.

Dalton and Sloan up at the pond. (Erin took off on her bike) Sloan is giving Dalton a cookie.

Okay, of course they are not his real sisters but he acts like they are his sisters and they act like he is their little brother. Erin and Sloan live next door and from the first day we moved in Dalton took to them. It just seems natural for one of both of the girls to be over here with Dalton playing or raiding the refrigerator. Don't get excited Dana, I like it this way! They know where the drinks and snacks are and they know they can help them selves. My only rules are DON'T LET THE DOGS OUT AND DON'T TRACK MUD THROUGH THE HOUSE. Easy rules. They sometimes fuss with each other but I think here lately they have been getting their aggressions out by having mud fights with each other. Yeah I said mud fights. It has rained so much that we have not been able to spread out the last 2 loads of dirt that we had brought in so the kids play in it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNY MARCH 30TH

Dalton wanted to ice the cake..so Dalton got to ice the cake!

Look! I think he is giving me the evil eye!!

And of course it is the birthday boy blowing out his candles!! We keep letting him say the proverbial "29 again!"

FLASH FLOOD 03-24-09

This is a picture taken from the driveway looking at the creek where the foot bridge is. Normally the water is low enough that I could crawl through it - if for some crazy reason I would want to. The water has left the bank on the far side of the bridge. The driveway is not flooded-just wet.

This was taken from my garage looking up towards the road. Our drive way makes a horse shoe and has to cross the creek on each side of it. So this is to the right of one side (not the middle section). There is a trench that comes from at the top of the road and runs down to the creek but this is not it! It has over flowed it's little bank too and just spread out all over and then down into the creek. The water standing in the foreground is a low spot beside the driveway that we have not filled in yet.
